Ceiling Tile

Ceiling Tile

Day One ( 04-04-14 ) :  Today we took our ceiling tiles down from the ceiling and cleaned them off . I also painted the background of mine .

* In this project , we are applying the color mixing we learned with our guided mixing charts and then with our texture paintings in our own style . We first made a brainstorming list of ideas to incorporate in our tiles . Such as a list of our favorite things and things that inspire us . Along with that , we sketched our design in a grid that would resemble our tiles . Once we got them down from the ceiling , we are free to take on the project as we wish within our guidelines .

In my tile , I wanted it to resemble me but also high school and the way I look at life in general . After seeing this picture , I knew I could incorporate high school and life with the words " never grow up " and then also in the Disney characters from Peter Pan surrounding it . I plan to make my background orange because it's my favorite color . And add gold glitter and use browns primarily for the rest of my detailing .

( Inspiration )

( 1 ) Initial color .

( 2 ) Silhouettes .

( 3 ) Color addition to bring light to the background .

( 4 ) Completion of silhouettes in a mix of raw umber and burnt sienna brown . Also the detailing sketch of the pixie dust lines and words " never grow up . "

( 5 ) I attempted to create the drip effect in the picture I used for my inspiration . I liquefied paint and was able to create the effect , but decided against following through with that idea . In order to remove and cover the lines from the water and paint , we painted the spots on my tile white . To go over them , we used a shade of red to add more depth to the background .

( 6 ) Opposed to the red , we created a new shade of pink and mixed it with my orange and original background colors to complete the background .

Texture Painting

Texture Painting

In this project , we are creating an acrylic texture painting . Starting with a blank canvas , we first drew out a picture that we wanted to create . Because soccer is my favorite sport , that's what I decided to base my painting on . I started by drawing a soccer ball and a grass field , but instead ended up drawing a goal and a smaller ball instead . This takes up more space on my canvas and allows me to add extra texture . Applying texture , using glue and water , forming tissues and laying it over my drawing , I let it dry and then added Gesso ( a white paint base substance ) to it . I'm currently going to begin painting the finished project !

Water Color Painting Project

These are two of the four water color paintings I am working on in this project .

1 . Abstract : using techniques such a wash and splatter , I created a colorful rainbow effect , incorporating elements of rain in its appearance .

2 . Tutorial : getting my inspiration from a YouTube video , I wanted to continue my theme , so therefore in this picture , I drew " umbrella girl " . Doing this element of my project in an all black and white wash , with only colored words in the quote I plan to add ' If you want the rainbow , you have to put up with a little rain ' , as where the project above and my third project will be in color , ties my theme together .

Post #2 ( Progress Update ) :

1 . * see above * = completed abstract painting .

2 . I completed my tutorial painting of the Umbrella Girl . This didn't exactly go as I had envisioned . I planned on making this painting a complete black and white and gray wash . However , I ended up making the girl totally black in order to make her the center and main aspect of my painting . To draw attention to her , as well as the words of the quote in black writing , I painted the sky a dreary blue and purple to highlight the rain theme . And made the grass green in order to add more elements of color into a once dull image . ( complete ) .

3 . Tutorial : I watched a YouTube video on how to create this umbrella painting . Although I wanted to make it look identical to the video , I couldn't . So I altered my idea and painted the umbrella the same , but with varying colors . I had to get creative with the background . At first it was a solid gray/blue/green/yellow/black wash . I left that at the bottom , but added a gray sidewalk at a vanishing point for detail and added blue to the sky above the sidewalk to add more balance in my painting . ( complete ) .

Color Wheel

1 . " Is your work turning out the way you envisioned ? "

- I originally planned on doing on butterfly , or even placing the butterflies in the circle to create more of a wheel effect . However , to incorporate all the colors , shades , and tints into my project , I had to choose a different perspective .

2 . " How can you make it better ? "

- I could have , or still could try , to blend the colors in the wings better . So it would look more natural and my brush strokes wouldn't show as much .

3 . " Are you challenging yourself ? "

- Due to the fact that I had to change my design plan from what I originally had in mind to complete all the aspects of this project , yes .
